An Update from Hans: Is your German wine REALLY from Germany?

Wednesday, December 7th, 2011
I just returned from Europe, visiting wineries in Germany, bottle factories, cork suppliers and print shops; which included touring their facilities So, yes! your German wine is definitely grown in Germany, but the rest of Europe contributed heavily to the final product: The original vine stock might have been cultivated and purchased in France (i.e Cabernet, Pinot, Chardonnay), the grapes picked by Polish farm workers, then possibly aged in American oak, then filled in an Italian made bottle (they are the best in the industry), corked with a Portuguese cork (not much longer …here comes the twist) and labelled on Czech paper (plenty of forest there). After all, what matters most in wine making is still the soil and climate, which is unique and different to every country and even region. Everything else could be collaboration of the world’s best products.
