What are the favorite fall wines here at Schlossadler? Let’s be honest, it was a very tough decision, but someone had to taste all those wines and decide! After much sacrifice and careful deliberation, here are some highlights:
Vendimia Seleccionada / Tempranillo (red wine, code: RVR)
Diez Caballero Vineyard – Rioja/Spain
The Diez-Caballero Vendimia Seleccionada is made only in the years of harvests considered “excellent” by the family. It is harvested by hand from 60+ year old Tempranillo vines on a single plot in Elciego. The palate reflects of fresh black cherry after a hefty amount of smoke, juicy black currant, pipe tobacco, and is slightly peppery. Integrated tannins, medium full body, lush texture, long finish.
Note: we recommend decanting this wine prior to serving.

Convento de S. Francisco ( red wine, code: PPR)
Bonifacio Caves Vineyard – Estremadura/Portugal
Gorgeous ruby color exploding with lush cherry and chewy red fruit.
Off Dry: 1
Cabernet Sauvignon/Merlot ( red wine, code: EMC)
Elfenhof Vineyard – Burgenland/Austria
It is probably the softest and most elegant of all our reds, yet it is not sweet. The harmonious blend of Cabernet and Merlot, the climate of the Burgenland in Austria, and most of all, the talents of the wine maker, Ernst Holler, makes this our most popular dry red.
Paired with pasta or meat, cheese or salami, or just in the glass alone, this wine is loved by many and most.
Off Dry: 1
Schwarzriesling (red, code: BBB)
Becker Vineyard – Rheinhessen/Germany
Schwarzriesling, better known as “Black Riesling,” is actually not from the Riesling grape at all. Known in France as Pinot Meunier, it’s a grape varietal that is traditionally used in champagne. Schwarzriesling is rich in ruby red color and the acidity of the grape is very high which is perhaps why many compare it to Riesling. Bursting with aromas of red cherry and fresh strawberry, this vibrant and inviting wine will be a favorite for both red and white wine lovers alike. Tasting like freshly squeezed juice, it may even become a favorite for breakfast!
Fruity: 3
